Reports: Mets' Steven Matz will undergo season-ending elbow surgery
Mets pitcher Steven Matz will undergo season-ending surgery to remove a bone spur in his elbow, according to multiple reports.
Matz has been shut down due to elbow and shoulder issues since Aug. 14, after months of discomfort. The lefthander won’t, however, need a procedure on the shoulder, Newsday’s Marc Carig reports.
He’s estimated to be on the shelf for three months once the surgery takes place.
In 132 1/3 innings, the 25-year-old posted a 3.40 ERA with 129 strikeouts. He is one of three Mets pitchers to undergo season-ending surgery, joining Matt Harvey and Jacob deGrom.
