Reports: Gray fails MLB drug test

Highly-touted pitching prospect Jonathan Gray has failed a test for banned substances administered by Major League Baseball, according to multiple reports.

The Oklahoma right-hander is expected to be one of the top players chosen in Thursday's Rule 4 MLB Draft, possibly going first overall to the Houston Astros. ESPN.com and CBSSports.com reported that Gray tested positive for Adderall.

Adderall is a stimulant commonly used to treat attention deficit disorder and narcolepsy. It is considered a banned substance by MLB, but players can receive an exemption if they medically need it. According to ESPN, Gray does not have a prescription for the drug.

Gray already has been drafted twice before, in the 13th round out of high school by the Tigers and the 10th round after one year in junior college by the Yankees. He since transferred to Oklahoma and quickly catapulted up draft boards as his pitches improved.

A major league general manager told CBSSports.com that he does not expect Gray's positive test to significantly affect his draft position.
