Report: Royals 'open to moving' 2B Infante, but can they?

In 33-year-old Omar Infante, the Kansas City Royals have an expensive and inconsistent infielder. He's owed $7.75 million in 2016, $8 million in 2017 and has a $10 million team option for 2018, so it seems unlikely the club would find anyone interested in trading for his services.

However, Andy McCullough of the K.C. Star indicated over the weekend that the club is interested in trading Infante:

Of course, that's not likely unless the Royals pay a huge portion of the remainder of his contract. Infante played in 124 games in 2015, hitting just .220/.234/.318 at second base, posting a WAR of -0.8 in the process. He was partially displaced by the Royals' midseason acquisition of Ben Zobrist for the final few months, too.

At this point, it's clear the Royals would like to get his contract off the books, but it's anyone's guess if they'll be able to do so.
