Report: Matsui to join A's on Tuesday

The Oakland Athletics have agreed to a deal with designated hitter Hideki Matsui and will unveil the Japanese star at a news conference Tuesday, the Oakland Tribune reported Monday citing a source.

The 36-year-old will undergo a physical Tuesday morning before the official announcement is made.

It is expected he will sign a one-year deal worth about $6 million — similar to the contract he was on with the Los Angeles Angels last season.

Matsui had already had a highly successful career in Japan before joining the Yankees, aged 28, in 2002. He has hit .290 with 161 homers over eight seasons in the majors.

The outfielder was named the 2009 World Series MVP in his final year with the Yankees, before joining the Angels and hitting .274 with 21 homers and 84 RBIs last season.
