Report: Giants in hot pursuit of free-agent ace Greinke

The San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers are huge rivals on the field, and now they could be going head-to-head for one of the prizes of the free-agent market.

Free-agent right-hander Zack Greinke is expected to be courted by both teams this offseason. CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman reported Friday that the Giants are “very much interested in Greinke by all appearances,” while his former employer in Los Angeles remains a factor. Heyman has even heard from a few people who believe the Giants are the favorite for Greinke, but he cautions that that information is purely speculative.

Heyman notes that Greinke will have other suitors, possibly including the Cubs, Cardinals and Red Sox. Greinke, however, is believed to prefer the National League because he can hit.

You can bet that Dodger fans will be none too pleased if Greinke joins the Giants, but it seems as though it’s a very real possibility.
