Report: Astros' Hamilton in final season
Baseball Hall of Fame broadcaster Milo Hamilton will announce Wednesday that 2012 will be his last season calling games on radio for the Houston Astros.
The team has called a press conference for 2:30 p.m. local time at Minute Maid Park, at which Hamilton is set to announce this will be his 28th and final year behind the microphone, the Houston Chronicle reported.
It will be the 84-year-old's 57th season calling games altogether, having worked at seven major league clubs.
Hamilton declined comment Tuesday, but former Astros owner Drayton McLane said the legendary broadcaster disclosed his intentions over the weekend.
"... the Astros won't be the same without Milo," McLane said. "He promoted major league baseball in Houston with his distinctive voice and style, his knowledge of the game and his unbelievable preparation.
"A great announcer paints a picture, and Milo painted a picture as well as anyone."
Hamilton began in radio during service with the Navy in 1945. He had stints with the Browns (1953), Cardinals (1954), Cubs (1955-57, 1980-84), White Sox (1961-65), Braves (1966-75) and Pirates (1975-79), before joining the Astros in 1985.
