Rays' Smyly makes another rehab start, eyeing return in 2015
Tampa Bay Rays lefty Drew Smyly has missed 86 games since being placed on the disabled list in May, but seems to be turning a corner in his rehab.
“(Tuesday) was probably my first game that I really wasn’t thinking about my injury,” Smyly told the Tampa Tribune. “I was thinking about trying to just get guys out. That’s a good sign.”
Smyly threw 90 pitches in a rehab start Tuesday for Durham.
The Rays traded David Price last season, netting Drew Smyly from the Detroit Tigers as the centerpiece of a multi-player trade. They imagined him slotting near the top of the rotation for many years to come.
Smyly landed on the DL because of a shoulder issue, but was 0-1 with a 2.70 ERA with 21 strikeouts in 16 2/3 innings to start the season.
