Rays recall Archer to start against Indians

The Tampa Bay Rays have recalled right-hander Chris Archer from Triple-A to start against the Cleveland Indians.

Archer was 5-3 with a 3.93 ERA in 10 starts at Durham. He was 1-3 with a 4.60 ERA in six appearances last season with Tampa Bay. Archer was selected by Cleveland in the fifth round of the 2006 draft and traded to the Chicago Cubs in 2008. The Rays acquired him from the Cubs in 2011.

Left-hander Alex Torres was also recalled from Durham on Saturday to pitch out of the bullpen.

Lefty Jeff Beliveau and right-hander Josh Lueke were optioned to Durham. Beliveau was called up Friday but didn't appear in the game that was delayed by rain three times and ended shortly before 3 a.m. Lueke pitched two scoreless innings in the Rays' 9-2 win as four pitchers combined on a one-hitter.
