Rangers move Class A affiliate to Myrtle Beach
The Texas Rangers have added a minor league affiliate owned by new managing partner Chuck Greenberg.
The Rangers said Friday that the Myrtle Beach Pelicans will be their high Class A team. It will be their first Carolina League team since 1986.
Texas will play an exhibition game in Myrtle Beach on March 29 against an opponent to be determined.
Greenberg led a group that bought the Myrtle Beach franchise in 2006. He and Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan headed a group that bought the Rangers last month.
The Rangers are also moving their Triple-A team to Round Rock, Texas, after 28 years in Oklahoma City. Round Rock is owned by Ryan, who is president of the Rangers.
