Pirates shine in All-Star Game
The National League came up short in Tuesday's All-Star Game, but Pirates representatives had a good showing.
Mark Melancon and Gerrit Cole each pitched a scoreless inning and Andrew McCutchen hit a solo home run.
A.J. Burnett did not get in the game.
McCutchen's homer was not only an exciting play in the game, but also put him in some pretty elite company.
According to Pirates.com, "the last four Pirates to homer in an All-Star Game were Dave Parker (1981), Roberto Clemente (1971), Willie Stargell (1965) and Ralph Kiner (1951).
"The only other Pirates to go deep in an All-Star Game are Vince DiMaggio (1943) and Arky Vaughan, who did so twice in 1941."
