Phillies give Kendrick 1-year deal

Right-hander Kyle Kendrick and the Philadelphia Phillies have agreed to a one-year, $3.585 million contract, avoiding arbitration.

Kendrick was 8-6 with a 3.22 ERA in 34 games, including 15 starts last year. He set career bests in ERA and games. The 27-year-old Kendrick is 43-30 with a 4.41 ERA in five seasons in Philadelphia. He's started 98 of the 127 games he's pitched.

The Phillies have three remaining players eligible for arbitration: left-hander Cole Hamels, right fielder Hunter Pence and infielder Wilson Valdez.
