Phillies C Ruiz scratched, day after celebration

Philadelphia Phillies catcher Carlos Ruiz has been scratched from the starting lineup because of a sore quadriceps, a day after his game-winning hit set off a wild scramble.

Brian Schneider started in place of Ruiz on Friday night against the New York Mets.

Ruiz says he felt a twinge in his right quad Thursday night. He stayed in the game and his two-run double in the ninth inning beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 10-9.

Ruiz saw his teammates rushing toward him and went running in the other direction, hoping they wouldn't pound him too hard on the helmet while celebrating. He says he felt his quad hurting again on the way back to the clubhouse.

He says he expects to play Saturday night against the Mets.
