Phillies activate catcher Carlos Ruiz from DL

The Philadelphia Phillies have activated catcher Carlos Ruiz from the disabled list.

Ruiz was sidelined with lower back inflammation. He appeared in two extended spring training games and went 1 for 3 with a run scored Thursday night in a one-game rehab assignment for Single-A Clearwater.

Ruiz replaces catcher Brian Schneider, who was placed on the 15-day DL with a left hamstring strain Thursday.

Ruiz is hitting .226 with two homers and nine RBIs. Last year, he led the Phillies with a .302 average and .400 on-base percentage.
