Padres place Chase Headley on 15-day disabled list

WASHINGTON -- The San Diego Padres have put third baseman Chase Headley on the 15-day disabled list due to a strained right calf and called up two players from the minors.

The Padres made the moves before Friday's game at Washington. They promoted infielder Jace Peterson from Double-A San Antonio and right-hander Kevin Quackenbush from Triple-A El Paso. Outfielder Tommy Medica was optioned to Triple-A.

Headley left in the second inning of Thursday's win over the Nationals. He is hitting .186 with two home runs and seven RBIs.

Left fielder Seth Smith, who left Thursday's game with a groin injury, says he's day to day.

Peterson was hitting .311 with three doubles, a home run and seven RBIs in 18 games. Quackenbush had four saves and a 1.80 ERA in nine appearances.
