Padres Hunter Renfroe: Waiver Wire Power in Final Week
Padres rookie Hunter Renfroe is having himself an excellent final week of the season. If you need help in average or power, he is someone to add this weekend.
The San Diego Padres made a lot of moves throughout the 2016 season. It all began with the Craig Kimbrel trade. After moving some aging veterans, the team looks to have something to look forward to in 2017.
One of those pieces is producing right now. Outfielder Hunter Renfroe is hitting very well, so you might want to add him for the final weekend.
Renfroe made his MLB debut on Sept. 21. He played 133 games with Triple-A El Paso before getting the call. In Triple A, he hit .306 with 30 home runs, 105 RBI and 95 runs scored. The negative to him is his lack of plate discipline. He had a .336 on-base percentage with 115 strikeouts and just 22 walks.
While it is a small sample size, he brought the same game to the Padres. He made five starts, played in seven, over the last week. In that span, Renfroe has four home runs, 12 RBI, six runs and a .381/.409/1.00 line.
11 of his 12 RBI came in two games, so the consistency may not be there. However, his four multi-hit and multi-run games show that he can perform from the first to the ninth inning.
With playoff-bound teams resting their stars in the final week, players like Renfroe become valuable to the fantasy teams competing for a championship.
The Padres finish up their series against the Los Angels Dodgers and then travel to Arizona to end the season against the Diamondbacks. With three favorable matchups upcoming, Renfroe is worth the add this weekend.
Fantasy owners are adding Renfroe just in time. He’s been added in 12.8 percent of ESPN leagues over the last week. The kind of power numbers he is putting up since debuting cannot be ignored. If you have a struggling player on your team, drop him and add Renfroe in his place. At least he is producing.
