Padres go largely with pitching in 2015 Draft

You could say that this year’s class of Padres draftees was large on pitchers. Not only were 23 of the 39 selections pitchers, but 13 of the 23 are 6-feet-4 or taller. Padres scouting director Mark Conner spoke about this aspect. Per U-T San Diego:

"A lot of those guys are bigger humans. You look in the big leagues; there's a lot of big humans in the big leagues.”

Austin Smith, the Padres’ first pick of the Draft, fits this profile. The right-hander is a 6-foot-4, 220 lb high school pitcher from Florida.
