Padres doing their part to curb water usage amidst drought

Last month the Giants and Athletics revealed measures they were taking at their respective ballparks to curb their water usage amidst the drought in California. Per ABC 10 San Diego, the Padres mentioned measures that they would be taking at Petco Park.

Among the measures:

The playing field grass was not maintained during the offseason, thus conserving 288,000 gallons of water. A more aggressive variety of Bermuda grass on the field was installed, which is a more drought tolerant grass. Water infield dirt as little as possible to maintain safety. When team is on the road, it is not watered at all.

According to a team spokesman, the Padres are also considering the usage of more water efficient urinals and faucets.
