Ottavino and Rockies agree to $10.4M, 3-year contract

DENVER (AP) Right-handed reliever Adam Ottavino and the Colorado Rockies have agreed to a $10.4 million, three-year contract.

Ottavino gets $1.3 million next year, $2.1 million in 2017 and $7 million in 2018 under the agreement announced Monday, which avoids salary arbitration. He would have been eligible for free agency after the 2017 season.

The 30-year-old underwent Tommy John surgery on his right elbow in May. The team is hoping to have him back sometime around the All-Star break.

Ottavino went on the disabled list in late April with right triceps inflammation soon after he was promoted to closer. Ottavino didn't surrender a run in 10 1-3 innings last season, when he made $1.3 million.

Originally selected by St. Louis with the 30th overall pick in the 2006 amateur draft, Ottavino was acquired off waivers by Colorado in 2012.
