Ohlendorf is latest Rangers pitcher to be hurt

SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) Ross Ohlendorf exited after two innings with right groin tightness, Texas' fifth starting pitcher injured in spring training, and the Rangers beat a Milwaukee Brewers split squad 12-5 Sunday.

Ohlendorf joins Yu Darvish, Ross Detwiler and Anthony Ranaudo as departing starts prematurely with injuries. Derek Holland has been limited to one inning in a ''B'' game after experiencing a sore shoulder early in camp.

''I don't know when I'll be back,'' Ohlendorf said. ''I'll be fine at some point soon. I hurt my groin just a little bit. It was real slight. I just felt like I would irritate it if I stayed in.''

Ohlendorf, who spent all of last season on the disabled list, allowed one unearned run and one hit, while striking out four before feeling a twinge in his groin on his final pitch. He has nine strikeouts in four innings over his first two starts.

''I'm real happy with the way I'm throwing,'' Ohlendorf said.

The Rangers sent 10 men to the plate in a seven-run first, highlighted Jake Smolinski's two-run triple. Mitch Moreland added a two-run single in the first and drove in another run with a third-inning single.

''I think all around it was a good day,'' Moreland said. ''The first guy had trouble throwing strikes, so a lot of guys had some patience at-bats and we were able to scratch a few runs early and it kinda carried over throughout the game.''

Brewers starter Taylor Jungmann retired only one of the eight batters he faced and walked four. Carlos Gomez homered for the Brewers.

STARTING TIME

Brewers: Jungmann, a 2011 first-round pick, threw only eight strikes in 29 pitches, failing to make it out of the first. He threw 10 straight balls during one juncture and walked Adrian Beltre and Prince Fielder with the bases loaded.

Rangers: RHP Chi Chi Gonzalez, who is a rotation candidate, yielded two runs on three hits in 3 1-3 innings.

TRAINER'S ROOM

Brewers: 1B Adam Lind, who has been restricted to DH duties because of back issues, stroked two hits.

Rangers: LHP Ross Detwiler, who bruised his right wrist Friday when hit by a line drive, is scheduled to throw batting practice Monday.

DON'T COME EARLY

Rangers manager Jeff Banister ordered his players not to arrive in the clubhouse before 8 a.m. Sunday. Players normally start checking in early as 5 a.m. and most days many are in uniform before 8. ''These guys have gone at it hard,'' Banister said. ''They need a recharge. Any time you can give them a little extra recharge, you're going to get a lot more on the backside.''

MORE OF MORELAND

Moreland was limited to 52 games last season, needing left ankle surgery in June. ''I definitely wake up in the morning, got a little soreness in there every now and then, but it's just something I'm going to have to work through especially this year,'' he said. ''Once I get out there, get on it and start moving around, it loosens up and is pretty much pain free throughout the rest of the day. It's absolutely better than where it was. I'm happy with that and looking forward to this year.''

UP NEXT

Brewers: After an off day, RHP Matt Garza will start Tuesday against the Padres.

Rangers: RHP Lisalverto Bonilla will make his first start Monday against the Angels.
