Newly-recalled Wojciechowski looking forward to helping Astros' staff

On Wednesday, the Houston Astros dipped into their minor-league stash of pitchers by recalling right-hander Asher Wojciechowski.

A depth move made to reinforce the pitching staff as it struggled a bit in the Astros' series in Arlington against the Texas Rangers, Wojciechowski went 6-2 with the Triple-A Fresno Grizzlies in 15 starts this season. The 26-year-old made four appearances with the Astros earlier in the season, going 0-1 with a 7.31 ERA in 16 innings of work.

As Woj told MLB.com's Brian McTaggart, his promotion comes at a good time for him, as far as his 'feel' for his pitches are concerned: "I thought I was competing well. I was coming off a couple of rough outings where things didn't really go my way, but stuff-wise I felt good. I felt like I was really working on my pitches and getting better. I felt like just these last couple of games down there for me I didn't perform as well, but I felt good with my stuff. I was happy to get the call and I'm looking forward to playing up here and helping these guys win."

With the Astros in a bit of a recent slump and looking to get hot again, an injection of a competitive Wojciechowski could help stretch out the staff for the time being.
