New York Yankees: Will Pitcher Nathan Eovaldi Be Cut

The New York Yankees will have a big decision to make on what to do with starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi.

New York Yankees starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi will be out for likely the entire 2017 season due to another Tommy John surgery. This will be the second time that Eovaldi has had surgery on his elbow, as he also underwent Tommy John surgery in high school.

Due to the fact that he won’t be able to pitch at all next season, the Yankees could non-tender Eovaldi. If they decide to do this, he will become a free agent. In a recent interview, Eovaldi has said that he hasn’t heard of what the Yankees’ plan might be with him moving forward.

“Nothing yet,” he said to Brendan Kuty of NJ.com. “It’s kind of out of my control — there’s nothing I can do about it,” he said to Kuty. “My main goal is just to focus on recovery and getting healthy, whenever it is.”

Eovaldi was not pitching well for the Yankees this season prior to the injury, but he still isn’t sure exactly when it happened.

“I don’t know, I really don’t,” he said to Kuty. “There’s guys that don’t throw as hard and they need it. There’s guys who don’t work as hard as others and they’re fine, other guys who work hard, they need it. I don’t know what the sequence is, what that combination is. It’s just, one of those things, working on mechanics and staying healthy. It’s hard to do.”

Eovaldi is just 26-years-old, but having two Tommy John surgeries already will scare many teams away. The Yankees might decide that they would rather go in a different direction, as he wasn’t anything spectacular for them. Finally, we will have to wait any see what the Yankees decide to do with Eovaldi this offseason.
