Ned Yost says Wade Davis is Royals' new closer

Ned Yost has made a change at closer.

The Royals manager told reporters Tuesday that he has decided to hand over closing duties to Wade Davis for the forseeable future.

Yost had initially announced that Greg Holland would rest for a few days due to soreness in his elbow. Less than a half hour later, Yost changed his tune, telling reporters "Davis will close the rest of the way and playoffs."

Holland struggled in his last appearance, likely due to the elbow injury, as he gave up two runs on three hits while walking two batters in Friday's loss to Detroit.

Davis has been dominant as the team's setup man this year, posting an ERA of 0.88 with 0.81 WHIP and a 70/19 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 61 2/3 innings.

Right-hander Kelvin Herrera is expected to move into the setup role, while Holland's role upon return has not yet been determined.
