Nationals' Strasburg reports no issues in first bullpen session

Stephen Strasburg threw his first bullpen session Tuesday afternoon, his first time on the mound since straining his left oblique on July 4. The right-hander threw 30 pitches and reported no issues, according to manager Matt Williams.

The next step in Strasburg's rehab program will be determined by how he feels over the next few days.

"Had no issues, so that's a good sign," Williams told reporters before Tuesday's game against the Mets. "We'll see how he feels tomorrow. I would imagine some general body soreness from being off a little while and getting back on the slope, but he had no pain throwing, and that's a good sign."

Barring any setbacks, Strasburg will likely throw another bullpen session or two, with an increased amount of pitches, before being sent out on a minor-league rehab assignment.

Williams said Strasburg isn't ready to return to game action just yet and has no time table for his return to the Nationals.
