MLB umpire Crawford calls it quits

MLB umpire Jerry Crawford retired this week following 34 years on the diamond, MLB.com reported Friday.

The decision by the 63-year-old has not been officially announced by MLB, but was first reported Wednesday by the St. Petersburg (Fla.) Times.

Crawford umpired in a major-league record 11 League Championship Series, along with five World Series and two All-Star Games.

His brother, Joe Crawford, is a well known NBA referee, and his father, Henry "Shag" Crawford, was an MLB umpire from 1956-75.
