Mexico dominates USA: WBC live updates and score
The 2023 World Baseball Classic continued on Sunday night, as Mexico took down the USA in a Pool C match.
Mexico scored early and often in this one, leading by as many as nine runs. Prior to Sunday, Mexico lost a contested 5-4 game in extra innings to Colombia on Saturday, while the USA beat Great Britain, 6-2.

The first batter of the game, Randy Arozarena, was initially called out on a ground ball to shortstop but was then ruled safe at first base after a Mexico challenge. Two batters later, Joey Meneses drew first blood for Mexico with a two-run home run to left-center field.

Defensive struggles
USA's infield had a rough third inning.
Nolan Arenado bobbled a ground ball on the transfer at third base, Jeff McNeil dropped a popup in shallow right field and then later threw a bouncing ball over to first, which Paul Goldschmidt was unable to corral. The aforementioned series of events helped Mexico plate a run. Kendall Graveman relieved Nick Martinez on the hill and got through the inning.
A gapper
Arozarena extended Mexico's lead to three runs when he roped an RBI double to right-center field in the top of the fourth off Brady Singer.

Patrick Sandoval surrendered just one run through three innings for Mexico, and Javier Assad picked up where the former left off. In three innings of work, Assad surrendered no runs and just one baserunner.

The USA cut into Mexico's lead a bit when Will Smith hit a solo home run to left in the bottom of the seventh. It trailed 7-2.
