Mets: Wilmer Flores' new walk-up song is the 'Friends' theme

So no one told you life was gonna be this way for Mets infielder Wilmer Flores…

You’re welcome for getting the song stuck in your head, but it’s worth it for this story as to why Flores walks up to the Friends theme song.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great song from a phenomenal sitcom that is still watched by many, myself included. It’s a song that I used at my sweet sixteen way back when to call my friends up to light the candle dedicated to them.

Now, why is “I’ll Be There For You” by the Rembrandts Flores’ walk-up song? Is it because he heard Yoenis Cespedes‘ new song was Circle of Life and he wanted something fun too? No. Well, maybe. I don’t know for sure but one can speculate.

Anyways, Flores is a huge Friends fan. Not only does he love the show, but the sitcom helped him learn English, according to Newsday.

Flores was only 16 years old when he came to the states. Once he began the season with Class A Savannah back in 2009, he vowed to speak more English.

He would watch the local news, but his favorite thing to watch was Friends. The show not only helped his English skills, but it also showed him what American culture was like.

To this day, Flores still watches the re-runs, and it’s still one of his favorite shows. He’s seen every episode and watches it before bed every night.

“It’s still my favorite show,” Flores said. “I don’t know why I started, I really don’t. I watched it once and I liked it.”

“I watch it every day before I go to sleep. It’s on Netflix. It’s on Nick at Nite every night.”

Flores basically stumbled on the show one night seven years ago, and now he’s paying homage to it.

As a Friends fan myself, as I’m sure many of you readers are as well, I love hearing that this is what Flores chose as his walk-up song, and I love his story behind it even more.

Friends helped him adapt to a new culture and a new language. It helped him relate to others. And now, this is his little “thank you” to the show.

Just when you think you couldn’t love Flores any more, you hear this story and get all of the feels.
