Mets still in talks with Blue Jays about Jay Bruce and Curtis Granderson
The Mets have remained in talks with the Blue Jays.
Just when Mets fans thought that Curtis Granderson was off the trading block – well, we’ve actually thought this since December 6th – we found out on Monday that that’s not entirely true.
Welp.
Here’s the tweet to prove it:
#BlueJays remain in talks with #Mets about acquiring Bruce or Granderson. Mets also trying to add a center fielder, per @Ken_Rosenthal.

Oh, well at least Jay Bruce‘s name is there as well right? He can go. I’d prefer for Granderson to stay.
We know that the Mets have already spoken with the Blue Jays about Bruce, and clearly have continued to speak, but nothing has happened yet. Is yet the key word? I mean, I sure hope so.
The outfield is crowded. Once Yoenis Cespedes re-signed, which obviously need to happen, the outfield got jam packed, and not all are needed. Currently there’s Cespedes, Bruce, Granderson, Juan Lagares, and Michael Conforto to play outfield.
Speaking about the re-signing of Cespedes, the day that happened, a Mets official told Kevin Kernan of the NY Post that trading both Bruce and Granderson (and – not or – and, just wanted to point this out) was a possibility.
Ugh, I sure hope not both. Yes Grandy is getting up there in age, and yes he had his slump this past season, but he’s still valuable both on and off the field. Don’t believe me? Read our season review of Grandy for more.
Plus, the Mets already came out to say that they plan on starting Granderson in center field. I could just be in denial, but I don’t see him going anywhere right now.
It’s now officially been two weeks since we were told that Grandy was off the trading block, and approximately three weeks since Cespedes has been signed. Clearly the Mets and Blue Jays have been talking since then, if not longer, which is interesting. Could this be a sign that something’s going to get done?
Dear Blue Jays, please take Bruce.
