Mets pitching prospect David Roseboom dominates in AFL

During the 8th inning of yesterday’s game against the Surprise Saguaros, David Roseboom struck out the side to bring his Arizona Fall League ERA to under 1.

Roseboom spent the 2016 season with Binghamton and pitched 1.87 while saving 14 games in 15 opportunities. During three seasons in the Mets farm system, Roseboom posted a 2.26 ERA and a 9.3 K/9, along with a fair 1.074 WHIP. His 2016 WHIP was 0.902 thanks to a .164 Opposing Batting Average.

Throughout the offseason, Roseboom has been lights out for the Scottsdale Scorpions. Roseboom gave up a hit in just two of his nine outings for a .125 Opposing Batting Average. He has given up just one Earned Run over 9.2 innings, for a 0.93 ERA.

He does have some command issues though, as he went a stretch of 3.1 Innings walking 7 batters. However, since that stretch, Roseboom has gone five hitless innings, walking just one batter and striking out eight.

His ERA thus far also happens to be 4.50 with runners in scoring position. If he can drop his walk rate, he will do a good keeping runners off to begin with.

It’s very possible that Roseboom’s indecent walk rate will not be an issue and only a “fluke.” This is because Rosenboom rarely walks batters during the regular season.

In 2016 he held a 2.8 BB/9. Through his entire minor league career his BB/9 is just 2.64. This is a huge contrast from his 7.8 this offseason.

After a dominant 2016 campaign, it’s possible Roseboom finds himself in AAA at some point next season. It’s just as possible that he starts there as well. From there, nobody can tell where the young player will end up. As long as he can work on his control a bit more, he can find himself in a major role for a team in the future, whether he’s still with the Mets or not.
