Mets eager to have David Wright's presence back in clubhouse
It's still uncertain when the next time New York Mets third baseman David Wright will take the field, but the team will be excited just to have him back in the clubhouse this week.
Wright, who received epidural injections in his ailing back last week, is doing his best to return to action after being sidelined for over a month.
In the meantime, he is slated to reunite with the team this week.
"I talked to David yesterday," manager Terry Collins said Sunday, per the New York Post. "He is going to visit the therapist again on Monday and come down and see us Tuesday [in San Diego]. That's the plan as of right now."
Wright has played all 12 of his seasons in MLB with the Mets, and was off to a good start in the 2015 season before injuring his hamstring and subsequently suffering complications with his back while rehabbing his hamstring injury.
Although it might be some time until Wright is healthy again, Collins and the Mets dugout are eager to have his veteran presence back.
"Obviously, anything can change, but I told him our guys are really excited and if he can get down that would be great for us — and for him also," Collins added. "I just know his presence, just in the clubhouse, the way he has the ability to get guys to kick it in a little bit, we need it."
