Mets 3B David Wright should be ready for Spring Training
Mets captain David Wright has been healing well following his neck surgery earlier this season.
Wright has missed most of the 2016 season for the Mets, and his absence has definitely been felt.
The third baseman has been on the sidelines since May 27th and underwent successful surgery to repair a herniated disc in his neck.
Most Mets fans didn’t know what this would mean for Wright next season and the rest of his career, but some good news may be on the horizon for the captain’s 2017 season.
According to baseball insider Jon Heyman, Wright’s progress and recuperation is going as well as the team is expecting. Heyman reports that after an exam in Los Angeles, David is “healing properly.”
This is definitely great to hear as the type of surgery Wright underwent was serious enough to warrant him staying out of the dugout when he was with the team because of the danger of falling or tripping down the dugout steps.
Heyman also notes that the team believes and is hopeful Wright will be “on [the] field working out in [the] spring.”
Whether that means David Wright will be at full capacity come Spring Training is another question altogether, but the fact that he’d be on the field, as opposed to simply participating in the infamous “baseball activities” has to be encouraging sign.
As the weeks and months of 2016 count down, we’re sure to find out more about David’s progress. This winter will likely be the most challenging of his career as a pro.
The lack of serious physical activity will have surely affected how in shape he is. I’m not saying he’s going to be fat, but Wright’s always been ripped. And it can’t be easy to maintain that after major neck surgery.
Get well soon, David. We’re all pulling for you!
