Marlins reportedly considered rehiring Ozzie Guillen after firing Redmond

After firing Mike Redmond, the Miami Marlins nearly turned to ostracized former manager Ozzie Guillen to manage the team.

According to a report from USA TODAY Sports, the Marlins front office discussed bringing Guillen back after firing him in 2012 in the wake of comments he made about Fidel Castro.

The report also suggests the team was also considering former Cincinnati Reds manager Dusty Baker and former Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington as options as well:

"The Marlins, according to a high-ranking official, seriously discussed several candidates once they decided to fire Mike Redmond. They talked about bringing in Ron Washington, who resigned from the Texas Rangers last September. They brought up Dusty Baker, who fired by the Cincinnati Reds after the 2013 season.

Yes, if you can believe it, they also debated the idea of bringing back Ozzie Guillen, who was fired by these same Marlins after the 2012 season, and is still being paid $2.5 million. Yet, fearing a backlash from corporate sponsors about Guillen's comments praising Fidel Castro that got him axed in the first place, that was squashed too."

So far, the Marlins' decision to go with former general manager Dan Jennings as their manager hasn't panned out, as they've lost eight of 10 games with him as their head coach.

"I knew this was going to be scrutinized," Jennings said. "I definitely expected to hear some of the cynical comments. Everybody is entitled to their opinion, and people want to focus on the negative.''
