Marlins reportedly close to a deal with RHP Edwin Jackson

Just a couple days ago, it was reported that the Miami Marlins were looking for cheap, short-team veterans to fill out their pitching staff, with Cliff Lee among the names listed.

It appears as though they have signed a reliever in that same mold -- righty Edwin Jackson.

Jackson, 32, has had a roller coaster ride of a career.

He first broke into the big leagues as a 19-year-old with the Dodgers in 2003 and was traded to Tampa Bay prior to the 2006 season. He was again dealt prior to 2009 to the Tigers, where he was an All-Star, pitching to a 3.62 ERA across 33 starts. From 2009 to 2014, Jackson played for five teams, owning a 4.62 ERA over that span.

It wasn't until 2015 that Jackson became a full-time reliever, appearing in 47 games between the Cubs and Braves and holding a 3.07 ERA.

It's unclear if the Marlins would use the 13-year-vet as a starter or reliever, but he certainly fits the bill as a cheap, short-term asset for 2016.
