Marlins president: We're not actively shopping Fernandez, Ozuna
There have been plenty of rumors surrounding the Miami Marlins duo of ace Jose Fernandez and outfielder Marcell Ozuna.
Despite these reports, Marlins president Michael Hill appeared on a conference call and denied those rumors. Here's what he said about Fernandez via MLB.com:
Since his debut in 2013, Fernandez has been one of the best pitchers in the game. He has posted a 2.40 ERA in 47 starts, carrying a 22-9 record (an astounding 17-0 at home) in his career. He has battled injuries, however, and has been limited to 19 starts over the last two seasons.
While dealing Fernandez wouldn't be the smartest thing to do, Ozuna's case is a bit different. He had a breakout campaign in 2014, hitting 23 homers and driving in 85 runs over 153 games, but hit a lull in 2015. He saw his power numbers dip (10 homers) and played in 123 games. The biggest indication he was a candidate to be traded, though, was the fact his camp has clashed with the Miami front office.
Hill still maintains that they're not shopping Ozuna, however:
The Winter Meetings begin Dec. 7.
