Marlins place Ramirez on 15-day DL

The Florida Marlins placed shortstop Hanley Ramirez on the 15-day disabled list Monday due to a lower back injury that has kept him out for the past week.

The three-time All-Star hurt his lower back on a swing in his first at-bat May 29 against the Dodgers and has not played since.

The 27-year-old underwent an MRI Friday, and the team said he would be placed on the DL Monday if his condition did not improve over the weekend.

Since he has not played since May 29, Ramirez will be eligible to return June 14, but manager Edwin Rodriguez has said he could be out longer.

Ramirez, the 2009 NL batting champion, has struggled this season, hitting just .210 with four home runs and 17 RBIs in 48 games.
