Mark Teixeira breaks down in tears during his Yankees retirement speech

New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira officially announced his retirement from Major League Baseball on Friday, effective at the end of the 2016 season.

Teixeira will walk away after 14 seasons in which he accumulated over 400 home runs and five Gold Gloves at first base.

During his retirement speech, he tried to express his gratitude and appreciation to the fans and could barely speak (see the video above).

Teixeira is in the final year of an eight-year, $180 million deal with the Yankees and said he decision to retire came after battling continuous injuries for the past few years.
