Mariners' Cano out with abdominal strain, will have MRI exam

Second baseman Robinson Cano is out of the Mariners lineup with an abdominal strain.

Seattle manager Lloyd McClendon said on Wednesday that Cano first felt discomfort a few days ago while making a play in the field. He played on Tuesday, but was held out for the series finale against Arizona.

Cano was scheduled to have an MRI on Wednesday, but was expected to travel with the team to Minnesota after the game. Brad Miller started at second base.

After a sluggish first couple of months, Cano has been on a roll since the middle of June. Cano is hitting .306 with nine homers and 23 RBI in his past 37 games, after hitting just .237 for the first 61 games of the season.
