Machado makes great play in first career start at shortstop

Different position, same Manny Machado.

The Baltimore Orioles All-Star made his first career start at shortstop Monday against the Tampa Bay Rays and did not look out of place.

He was originally drafted as a shortstop, but because of his size and production at the minor league level, he was moved to third base to put him on the fast track to the big leagues.

In his first start at shortstop since 2012 with Double-A Bowie, Machado flashed the leather, making a great play in the hole:

Before the game, Showalter noted Machado's happiness to MLB.com.

"I know it's different," Showalter said. "He's pretty excited about it. Every once in a while, you're in need of a little different look. Something to take away from Groundhog Day."

Machado finished the game 2-for-5 with a run scored in the leadoff spot.
