Longtime Dodgers broadcaster Jarrin signs three-year extension

As legendary Los Angeles Dodgers announcer Vin Scully prepares to hang up his mic after next season, his Spanish-language counterpart is gearing up for at least another three years calling games at Chavez Ravine.

According to MLB.com, the Dodgers announced during Monday's game at Dodger Stadium that Jaime Jarrín, who is currently in his 57th season as the Dodgers' Spanish-language play-by-play announcer, has signed a three-year contract extension that will take him into his 60th year with the team.

"I've been so blessed," Jarrín said of his career with the Dodgers. "It has been such a special time sharing the broadcasts with our fans and having my son, Jorge, join me in the booth. I started thinking about the number 60 in my mind this season. I sat down with the Dodgers and agreed on three more years to get to my 60th year and then we'll see about the future at that time. I'm still having a great time and I love what I am doing. And the Dodgers and our fans have been very supportive."

Jarrín, who has called 28 World Series and a trio of perfect games, cites a few of his favorite Dodger memories as witnessing Fernando Valenzuela's memorable "Fernandomania" chapter and being on the call for Orel Hershiser's record scoreless innings streak.

"The Dodgers and our fans are so fortunate to have these two broadcasting icons describe our games," president and CEO Stan Kasten said. "Jaime is one of the most popular Dodgers among our fan base and they look forward to his description of each and every game."
