LaTroy Hawkins reflects on long career, discusses future

With his career drawing to a close at the end of this season, 42-year-old LaTroy Hawkins reflected on his career and mused about his future in a Q & A with the CU Independent. The Rockies' reliever -- who struggled early in his career as a starter -- said that "failure" was definitely his "biggest teacher." He told the CU Independent:

"I had a manager named Tom Kelly (who managed the Twins from 1986-2001) that believed in me and told me 'You’re gonna figure it out, it’s just gonna take a little time. Keep working and you’ll be in the big leagues, you stop working I’m getting your ass out of here' he told me."

Asked about what he might do once his career is over:

"Hopefully I can work in a front office anywhere. I don’t know about coaching. I won’t say no, but I don’t know. That’s way down the line. Hopefully one of these smart General Managers can give me a job so I can learn the biz."
