Johnny Cueto gets roughed up by old Royals teammates in ASG

Johnny Cueto's old Kansas City Royals teammates were downright rude to him in the All-Star Game.

Cueto, who started on the mound for the National League on Tuesday, gave up homers to Eric Hosmer and Salvador Perez in the second and didn't make it out of the inning, as the AL jumped to a 3-1 lead en route to a 4-2 win.

The Royals stars ensured the AL will open the World Series at home for the 11th time in 14 years since the All-Star winner was used to determine the hosts for Games 1 and 2.

Cueto yielded five hits and three runs while getting only five outs and took the loss.

"I'm not trying to make excuses, but sometimes you get up and you don't feel well," Cueto said. "This morning I got up and didn't feel well. That is not an excuse. I wanted to go out there and pitch and do the best I could."

Hosmer's homer came in his first career at-bat in the All-Star Game; he drove in another run and was named MVP. Perez was making his fourth All-Star appearance and Cueto his second.

"I would have loved to be able to get them out, but I just left two pitches up and that was the story," Cueto said.

Cueto helped the Royals win the World Series last year after arriving in a midseason trade, but didn't stick around, accepting a $130 million deal with the San Francisco Giants. The veteran right-hander is 13-1 with a 2.47 ERA this season.

MLB on FOX insider Ken Rosenthal wrote that some within the Royals organization were secretly pleased by the homers off Cueto, who reportedly ruffled some feathers during his time with the team.
