Jeter in Yankees' lineup as designated hitter

Derek Jeter is set to serve as the designated hitter and bat leadoff in the New York Yankees' lineup for the second straight day after injuring his left ankle trying to beat out a grounder against Boston.

Manager Joe Girardi said Friday that he thinks it's an injury that the 38-year-old Jeter will have to deal with the remainder of the season.

Typical for Jeter, he refused to acknowledge he was hurt and said he could play shortstop for the opener of a key series against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Jeter was lifted after coming up lame running out a grounder in the eighth inning Wednesday night in Boston. As the DH on Thursday, he had an RBI single.

Eduardo Nunez was to replace Jeter at shortstop.
