Injured Red Sox RF Shane Victorino (hamstring) could miss opener

BALTIMORE -- Red Sox right fielder Shane Victorino has been sent back to Boston to have his right hamstring examined, leaving his status for Monday's opener in doubt.

Victorino strained his hamstring while running the bases in Saturday's exhibition finale. He accompanied the team to Baltimore over the weekend, but left for Boston on Sunday to receive an MRI.

Manager John Farrell said Victorino would also receive "a full workup and exam" on Monday morning.

Farrell said the outfielder could return to Baltimore in time for Monday's 3 o'clock game -- if he is not placed on the disabled list.

Farrell said no contingency plan has been put in place to fill Victorino's place in the roster.

Victorino batted .294 with 15 homers and 61 RBIs in 122 games last season for the defending World Series champions. He spent time on the disabled list with a strained left hamstring.
