Hope remains: Gordon denies that Royals have 'no chance' to keep him

Just last week, word was that the Kansas City Royals had 'no chance' to re-sign left fielder Alex Gordon based on their (at the time) most recent contract offer.

When asked about that report a few days ago, Gordon himself said in no uncertain terms that there was 'no truth' to last week's update.

Pete Grathoff of the Kansas City Star passed along the quote from Gordon, who gave it to the Lincoln Star Journal and Omaha World Herald at a baseball camp in Nebraska on Monday.

While he admitted he wants to make 'the best decision for myself and my family', Gordon also told the World Herald that, "The Royals are in the mix. I know what's going on behind the scenes, and I'm dealing with it the best I can."

Kansas City may be ready to proceed with backup options if Gordon does wind up signing with a new employer, but this latest update would (theoretically, at least) give Royals fans a bit more hope regarding the chances of him coming back to K.C.
