Duvall hits 2 of Reds' 5 homers in 11-8 win over Rockies

DENVER (AP) Adam Duvall had his first career two-homer game, Joey Votto hit his 200th homer and Eugenio Suarez - who came in mired in an 0-for-28 skid - also went deep in the Cincinnati Reds' 11-8 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Monday.

Zack Cozart also homered for the light-hitting Reds, who collected a season-best 17 hits.

The Rockies gave up five homers after entering the game having allowed a major league-low 15 in the month of May.

Dan Straily (3-2) overcame a slow start and an early 5-1 deficit to pick up the win. He helped himself by drawing a walk and scoring a run in Cincinnati's five-run fourth inning rally that turned things around.

Votto led off the seventh with his eighth homer, a no-doubt shot off Jason Motte over the scoreboard in right that made him the seventh Reds player to have 200 homers among his 1,000-plus career hits.

Straily surrendered Daniel Descalso's bases-clearing double and gave up an RBI single to Gerardo Parra in the third when swirling winds wreaked havoc on fly balls.

Straily drew a walk from Chad Bettis (4-4) in the fourth, when the Reds rebounded for five runs and seven hits to chase Bettis, who failed to hold a 5-1 lead.

Bettis gave up six runs and eight hits in just 3 2-3 innings.Duvall hit a two-run homer, his 12th, and Brandon Phillips had an RBI single that broke the 5-5 tie during the fourth. Suarez snapped out of his skid during the five-run outburst, and he added a solo homer off Miguel Castro in the eighth, his 10th.

Duvall led off the ninth with his 13th homer, this one off Jake McGee.

Staily allowed five earned runs and eight hits in six innings, closing his outing with three scoreless innings.

Carlos Gonzalez hit a two-run shot off Tony Cingrani in the ninth and came around to score on Descalso's two-out single on Cingrani's 32nd pitch of the inning. Manager Bryan Price was forced to bring in right-hander C.J. Ramirez, who retired Dustin Garneau on a fly out for his first major league save.

LEADING OFF: Cozart led off the game with his sixth homer, snapping out of an 0-for-18 skid. Charlie Blackmon responded with a leadoff homer, his fourth, in the bottom of the inning.

The only other time that had happened in Rockies history was Aug. 25, 1995, when Bernard Gilkey did it for St. Louis and Trenidad Hubbard homered for the Rockies at Coors Field.

The last time it happened in Reds history was July 2, 2005, against the Astros when Orlando Palmeiro homered leading off for the Astros and Felipe Lopez did it for the Reds.

And the last time in happened in MLB history was Sept. 14, 2015, when Alex Gordon homered leading off for the Royals at Cleveland and Jason Kipnis followed suit for the Indians.

TRAINERS ROOM:

Reds: The Reds had Louisville C Raffy Lopez at the ready in case they had to put C Ramon Cabrera on the DL with a sore left ring finger. But Cabrera, who traveled to Cincinnati following Sunday's game in Milwaukee, was cleared after an MRI and rejoined the team in Denver. Lopez returned to Louisville on Monday.

Rockies: Slugger Nolan Arenado got the day off much to the disappointment of the large Memorial Day crowd at Coors Field. Manager Walt Weiss said he took that into account but figured Arenado needed the break mentally. ''Trusting my eyes, trusting my gut,'' Weiss said. As for how Arenado took the news that he'd get the day off, Weiss said: ''He never welcomes it, but I think he understands it.''
