Dodgers plan to sit Seager when Rollins returns from injury

Corey Seager has had an excellent first 10 games in the majors, but Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly made a point of clarifying that he has yet to earn a starting position on the team.

Seager, who made his major-league debut on Sept. 3, has been starting at shortstop for the Dodgers while injured shortstop Jimmy Rollins remains sidelined with a jammed knuckle.

Mattingly says he plans to start the veteran over Seager when he's ready for action.

"When Jimmy gets back, we plan on playing Jimmy," Mattingly said.

In his first 10 major-league contests, Seager has hit .412/.524/.647 with a home run and seven RBI.

The Dodgers have been equally impressed by the 21-year-old infielder's composure as they have been with his on-field performance.

"He's been pretty good," Mattingly said. "Kind of what we expected. He's pretty mature, doesn't get too excited. He's got a good eye. He can hit both sides. He doesn't scare me at all, I'll tell you that. I'm not afraid to put him out there."
