Dodgers' Greinke becomes first-time father, placed on paternity list

Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Zack Greinke's childless streak is over.

Greinke's wife, Emily, announced the birth of Bode Nicholas Greinke on Twitter on Friday afternoon. Bode was born Thursday night.

The Dodgers placed Greinke on the paternity list earlier Friday, the night on which he was supposed to start against the New York Mets. Greinke can remain on the paternity list for up to three days, though manager Don Mattingly told reporters Friday that Greinke will start either Saturday or Sunday.

Greinke currently has a 43 2/3-innings scoreless streak, and a start against the Mets this weekend certainly would be advantageous toward extending that streak. The Mets rank last in the majors with a .233 team batting average and were shut out by Dodgers co-ace Clayton Kershaw on Thursday night. Kershaw has thrown 29 consecutive scoreless innings.
