Dodgers draft picks shine in College World Series
Three of the Dodgers’ top five picks in the 2015 MLB Draft pitched for the two teams involved in the College World Series Finals. Right-handers Philip Pfeifer and Walker Buehler pitched for Vanderbilt, and Joshua Sborz was a right-handed pitcher on the championship Virginia team.
Buehler, the team’s first round pick (No. 24 overall), tried to clinch the championship for Vanderbilt on Wednesday, but gave up two runs in three innings as the starter. He had only given up one run in 6 2/3 previous CWS innings.
Although Pfiefer gave up two runs on Tuesday, they were both unearned. According to Jon Weisman of Dodger Insider, he didn’t allow any earned runs in 12 CWS innings.
Meanwhile, Sborz pitched four scoreless innings in relief for Virginia on Tuesday. According to Weisman, Sborz pitched 13 scoreless innings in four CWS appearances and actually ended his college career with a 27-innning scoreless inning streak.
