Diamondbacks hitless following Paul Goldschmidt intentional walks

The Diamondbacks’ Paul Goldschmidt has been walked 37 times this season, 10 of which have been intentional. Three of those intentional passes were issued on Sunday by the Brewers with all due respect to Goldschmidt’s ownership of Miller Park.

Unfortunately the D-backs have yet to take advantage of any of those walks. The Arizona Republic notes that the team is 0 for 9 with a walk in the 10 plate appearances following an intentional walk for Goldy. It’s not like the spot in the order (fourth) behind Goldschmidt hasn’t been productive though. The D-backs have been getting a .973 OPS from the cleanup spot.

Per the Republic, D-backs manager Chip Hale offered his take on why his players haven’t come through following those intentional passes:

"As hitters what we do is we put the pressure on ourselves like, 'I've gotta get him in. I gotta get a hit. They just walked the guy in front of me.’”
