Detroit Tigers make trade with Tampa Bay Rays, acquire veteran infielder
The Tigers made a trade to strengthen their middle infield depth on Monday.
Detroit acquired veteran infielder Alexi Casilla from the Tampa Bay Rays, in exchange for a player to be named later.
Casilla, 30, has spent the entire season in Triple-A Durham, where he hit .315 in 37 games for the Bulls. He will start his tenure with the Tigers at Triple-A Toledo.
The switch-hitter is a lifetime .247 hitter in nine seasons with the Minnesota Twins and Baltimore Orioles.
Casilla has significant big-league experience at three positions: second base, shortstop and third base.
