Cubs: Bomb threat forces evacuation, search of Wrigley Field

CHICAGO -- Wrigley Field is open again after a telephone threat prompted police to evacuate the ballpark for about an hour.

Chicago Police spokesman Thomas Sweeney confirmed the threat on Sunday, but declined to provide further details.

Security told the media to leave the press box right after the Cubs' 2-0 victory over the Giants, but declined to provide a reason. They were allowed to return about an hour later.

Several reporters on the scene reported a bomb threat was the cause, and the Cubs said the same in a statement released later Sunday.

“Following our game this afternoon, we received a bomb threat and took swift action to clear the few remaining fans, players, staff and media from the ballpark," the statement read. "After a thorough search by law enforcement, no evidence was found to suggest this threat was credible. We take safety at Wrigley Field seriously and are working with law enforcement authorities to pursue the person who initiated this threat."

Police were seen going through the ballpark with dogs. Authorities also redirected traffic away from a street that runs behind Wrigley.
